This piece was initially created as a mixed media presentation of shibari. But, because this was one of my first ceramic pieces, I didn't know to prepare the piece for firing properly. It exploded in the kiln.

I brokenheartedly pieced the sculpture together, filling and painting in the missing and joined spaces. Through the process of Kintsugi, I found even greater meaning in the artwork: Our sexual journeys are never usually straight forward ones. We discover and explore our preferences through moments of timidness, vulnerability, excitement, and passion.

The piece is about giving up control and the ties between vulnerability and sensuality. The name "Kink" comes sexual preferences and also unplanned kinks in process.

Dimensions: 8 x 5 x 5 in
