We wanted to showcase NFTs beyond speculative assets and overpriced JPGs and instead demonstrate how NFTs can power engaging, interactive experiences. The project created a virtual pet experience that captivated users and also served as a user-friendly entry point to the world of blockchain and NFTs.

Inspired by childhood toys and games like Pokémon, Digimon, Tamagotchi, and Neopets, the team took a new approach to familiar concepts—on-chain pocket monsters and virtual pets that evolve as you interact with them.

Fregg is a virtual pet that grows and evolves with regular love and care. Players customize their Fregg and complete a task each day to keep it alive. After a number of days of caring for their Fregg, it evolves into its next form. Players are incentivized to continue caring for their Fregg with unlockable rewards. As players visit and engage with their Fregg, its progression and evolution is saved and the NFT is updated on-chain. 

As the project lead, I was responsible for defining the game mechanics and user engagement strategies, as well as overseeing art direction and artist management. I also meticulously designed both the in-simulation and out-of-simulation experiences, modifying every asset to be color corrected, cohesive, and pixel perfect across all devices. I also created merchandise and the storefront for players to purchase rewards unlocked by their game's progress.
